Variance Explanation

Our license is for children ages 16 months to pre-kindergarten, however, we can apply for a variance which allows us to provide care outside of that age range for an individual child.

When a parent would like their child to begin school before they turn 16 months, we can work with parents to apply for a variance, so long as the child is at least 14 months, walking well and communicating with us. We also look at the timing of a start date in terms of our school calendar, looking for logical times for children to begin school, such as the start of the school year, or after winter break.

The variance process is quite simple. The parent(s) schedule a time with us to bring the child in for a visit to the classroom. We all spend a little time together, so our staff can see the child move around the space and communicate. Then we can complete the variance request and submit it to our licensor. Our licensor then makes the decision to approve or deny the request.

If you would like to consider a variance for your child, or have questions about this process, please contact Sharon Rosenberg-Scholl.
