Parent Information:
Policies and Procedures

Attendance Requirements:
Regular attendance is essential to the success of educational programming and sets Jewish Education as priority.  The Education Committee and the Department of Education require an 80% attendance record.  Students who attend Hebrew School must also attend Religious School.

Maximum number of absences permitted by the Education Committee and Education Department:

Pre-K-Grade 6 6 per year (3 per semester)
7th-8th Grade 4 per year (2 per semester)
9th Grade explained to families at orientation
10th Grade 6 per year (3 per semester)
Hebrew School 6 per semester

Continued absences beyond the above are subject to review by the Education Committee and may require additional make-up work.

Arrival and Dismissal:
For the safety of our children, we will enter and dismiss onto the parking lot entrance only.  It is important that you follow the directions of our traffic officer. Please always drive slowly and watch for children.  Please see the below Hebrew School dismissal procedure information.

Arrival:
Once students arrive on Temple grounds, they must remain on-site (e.g. They may not go to a neighborhood store or restaurant.)

Religious School - There is no supervision for students before 8:50 a.m  Staff will be in classrooms beginning at 8:50 a.m. to welcome your child(ren).

Hebrew School - There is no supervision provided by Temple Israel for students before 3:45 p.m. If you need special arrangements, call the school office for instructions.

Dismissal:
Parents of Kindergarten students are required to pick up their child at the classroom at the end of class.

For your child’s safety, a note and/or phone call from a parent/guardian is required for early dismissal.

Early release of a student in grades Kindergarten through 3rd requires a parent/guardian picking up the child in his/her classroom.

Late Pick-up: If a student’s ride is late, we ask you to notify Temple if at all possible. The student will be asked to wait in the Temple lobby.

Discipline:
Each classroom will discuss guidelines for appropriate behavior and develop classroom expectations which will be posted in the room.  If a student repeatedly disobeys classroom rules and various interventions are ineffective, a student may be sent to the Program Director.  A second visit to the Program Director may warrant a phone call home.

Guest Policy:
Due to space restrictions and classroom dynamics, it is difficult to accommodate guests.  If you have any questions, please contact the program’s director.

Weather:
Website, Cancellation Hotline 612-374-0345 or WCCO Radio (830 AM)
If the weather is threatening, and you are wondering if school will be in session, please check our Weather Hotline and/or WCCO radio before calling Temple.  You may also check the “Weather Update” link on the homepage or education page of the website.

Medications:
We will not administer any medications (including aspirin or acetaminophen) without written or phone permission from a parent.  If a child needs to take a prescription drug while at school, it must be sent to the Program Director in its original pharmacy labeled container accompanied by a signed permission slip.

Conferences:
The teachers and administrative staff are available for conferences by appointment.  In order for our school program to run smoothly, the staff needs to be available for the students during school programs.  Therefore, conferences will usually be scheduled for times other than school hours.  Hebrew School schedules parent/teacher conferences for all students in December.

Progress Reports:
Written progress reports are sent home at the end of each semester.
