A Parent Survival Guide to the Teenage Brain

Erin Walsh, M.A., will explain what's happening in the adolescent brain on the path from childhood into adulthood. She and her father Dr. Dave Walsh joined forces to create Mind Positive Parenting in 2010 and Erin uses his best selling book Why Do They Act That Way? as the foundation of this presentation. Combining brain science, stories, and warm humor, Erin will give parents practical strategies for raising healthy, resilient teens.

Parents will leave this presentation understanding more about healthy communication and how to avoid power struggles, the impact of alcohol and drugs on the developing brain, digital technologies and media use, and the importance of staying connected with your teen. Most importantly, Erin Walsh will remind you that raising teenagers is not a problem to be solved, but an adventure to be lived.

Honor and Celebrate Rabbi Zimmerman's 25th Anniversary in the Rabbinate and at Temple Israel

We were blessed 25 years ago when Rabbi Zimmerman came to us as an assistant rabbi. We continue to be blessed as she celebrates her silver anniversary and leads us into the 21st century with her wisdom, kindness, creativity and strength.

Please join us as we come together as a community to honor Rabbi Marcia A. Zimmerman on this significant milestone in her rabbinate and at Temple Israel. Rabbi Jacobs joins us at our Erev Shabbat service as we honor and celebrate Rabbi Zimmerman.

Rabbi Rick Jacobs is president of the Union for Reform Judaism, the congregational arm of the Reform Jewish Movement in North America. A longtime and devoted creative change agent, Rabbi Jacobs spent 30 years as a dynamic, visionary spiritual leader at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, New York and Brooklyn Heights Synagogue in Brooklyn, New York.

Celebrate Rabbi Zimmerman, her love for Judaism and Temple Israel with a donation in her honor. Gifts may be directed to the Zimmerman Hornstein Family Endowment Fund at Temple Israel, or to a fund of your choice.

Parking Information
We are thrilled to have you join us in celebrating this milestone anniversary with Rabbi Zimmerman. Due to the anticipated large number of attendees, please arrive early and plan to park on the street. Both the 24th Street and the alley entrances will be open and staffed for guest drop-off. Parking can be found in the neighborhood surrounding Temple.
