SOCIAL ACTION
Tzedek, tzedek tirdof – Justice, justice pursue!
Our Social Action Committee at Temple Israel is made up of a group of committed and energetic justice advocates like you. Our mission is to engage more of our membership to take action through direct service and advocacy to bring about Tikkun Olam – the repair of an imperfect world. If you have decided it is time to contribute to the raising of our Jewish collective conscience, contact Rabbi Sim Glaser or Jim Proman, Social Action Committee Chair.
Our justice work at Temple continues to target homelessness, affordable housing, the current mortgage foreclosure crisis and assisting our neighborhood elementary school in preparing its children for the future.
We welcome your participation in this work.
Families Moving Forward
To volunteer by providing a meal, entertaining children, setting up rooms, or donating funds or needed items during our shelter weeks, January 18 - 31, 2008 and June 14 - 27, 2009, please contact Sue Tish McMorris, Marcy Frost or Mark Ratner.
Foreclosure Prevention
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available in our ongoing project with Jewish Community Action to prevent foreclosures in North Minneapolis. Do you have a few hours to help us compile a list from public records of homeowners with risky mortgages? Can you join us to advocate for loan modifications to help people stay in their homes? We are working with churches, neighborhood, ethnic and community organizations in North Minneapolis.
