7th & 8th GRADE
Na'aseh V'nishma Program Information
Na’aseh V'nishma is a two-year program for 7th and 8th grade students that combines classroom learning with active participation in community mitzvah work. We use the texts "It’s a Mitzvah...Step by Step Guide to Jewish Living" and “Jewish Heroes, Jewish Values.” This course addresses several relevant themes of early adolescence and teaches values that are essential for developing Jewish adults.
Our overall goal is to expand our students’ Jewish knowledge through experiential learning and actively doing mitzvoth.
Class Meeting Times: Class is in session from 12 noon - 2:30 p.m. on scheduled meeting days. Because we start promptly at noon, we ask that students arrive by 11:55 a.m. Please note that some sessions have different meeting times due to some wonderful learning opportunities.
Tzedakah: Each session, students are welcome to bring money for tzedakah. The money will be dispersed to various mitzvah sites, based on student recommendations.
Class Attendance: Student attendance is essential in order to form a community and make important connections in this broad-based program. Homework is sent after each absence so that students remain well-informed about what they’ve missed. Field trips, speakers and special activities cannot be made up; therefore we hope families will make every effort to make attendance a priority. We ask that families also make an effort to refrain from planning Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations at times that conflict with scheduled programs.
Communications: Temple Times newsletter and mitzvah site sign-up sheets will be emailed out monthly.
Mitzvah Requirements:
7th Grade:
Students are asked to complete 10 hours of mitzvah work this year, beginning in October.
8th Grade:
Students are asked to complete 15 hours of mitzvah work this year.
